Next, secure the two clamps on one side of the truck bed.  Make sure to put felt or rags under the clamps to avoid scratching.  Place the blanket against the bike or the side of the truck, again to avoid scratching on either vehicle.

Loop the straps through the clamps, and loop one strap through the front tire, and the other through the bicycle frame, and then loop it back around through the clamp again.  Then tie a knot with ropes or ratchet the tie-down.  Your set.

What to look for when deciding on a dump truck beds are price, year, and condition.

Consider on price range that often times you may be able to buy a comparable vehicle that is up and running for the same price of the bed. In this case you would want to go with the vehicle over the bed.

Next thing to consider is the year. Some beds will not match up easily depending on year. The new will not match with the old, but this is not always the case.

Condition. Do proper inspection, ask questions, and go on site if possible.

These tips will lead you to a successful purchase of a dump truck bed.

Another reason that this is a hard decision is because of price. A long bed costs more than a shortbed.

The advantages of a longbed over a shortbed are the following: You can carry more stuff, especially longer items such as wood, sheetrock, etc. The disadvantage of the long bed pickup truck bed is that it is harder to park your truck, harder to find shells, liners, and other accessories for the truck, and it can cause problems when hauling larger trailers, occasionally causing jack knifes.

The advantages of a shortbed are easier maneuverability, less of a blindside and easier to obtain accessories for the vehicle. Also, the vehicle looks sharper as it is more symmetrical.

The disadvantages include less storage room, and less ability to haul large objects.

In the end you have to review your purpose of the truck. For most a short or regular bed will do, but if you are in construction or similar industries, the long bed will be the better investment.

The reason you can do this is because it is cheaper to buy trucks with strange truck beds, especially if going to a public city auction.  You can find interesting truck beds, like animal transport, utility trailers, work beds, cargo box truck beds, and other municipal truck beds to serve specific purposes. When going into the public these are less desirable obviously because most people don't have a purpose for these type of pickup beds. Sometimes it is also possible to get trucks with no beds. It is not uncommon to see these vehicles go for 2 - 5000 dollars below book, depending on the year's model.

Another reason to do this is because when removing the bed you can either resell it to a company or other city, or get a couple hundred dollars for recycling it as scrap metal at the local plant.

Here's how to remove the bed. First you need a jack, and some power tools, preferably a power drill with hex or bolt attachments. Or pneumatic or air powered tools are a great, and sometimes better alternative as they can weasel into tight spots.

You need to find the bolts that attach the truck to the frame. So a flashlight is essential. Lay on your back and look up at the support frame. You should see the screw bolts on the underside. There will be 8 - 20 of these depending upon manufacturer. Next, use your power tools to remove these, and put the bolts somewhere where you can reuse them if possible.

Now the toughest part, and most intimidating, is lifting the bed off the frame. If it's a normal truck bed it can be done with at least 6 strapping men. If none of your friends can help out, or the bed is larger than a normal short bed, you need a pneumatic hoist. Not the engine hoist, but a hoist that's larger. Strap ropes around the bed, and attach those to the hoist, and crank the lever until its floating above the bed. Than drive the pickup away.

To get a bed on your truck repeat the process in reverse. You may need to drill holes in the frame or make minor adjustments depending upon the type of bed. See manufacturers manual for further details.

You have several options however, and its easier than you think to purchase a shell for your pickup.  First, decide if you want to buy new or used.

If you want to buy used, your best choice is to watch the local classifieds, Craigslist, or eBay.  You can also go to used car dealerships, auto body shops, and Truck Accessory Shops.  Their are many auto shops that work specifically on trucks and can lead you in the right direction, or even special order for you.

For a new shell, your best bet is to go to the car dealership that is the brand of truck you have.  So if you have a Chevy go to your local Chevy dealership and they can hook you up.

Online the choices are even slimmer, but you can try eBay or buying direct from the manufacturer.

When fighting off the urge to not protect your truck bed you need to consider that doing the opposite is the better choice.

Used both as a truck bed liner, and for industrial, and even military uses, this rugged spray on material provides durability and protection.

You should consider if you want to do it yourself or have a professional do it.  Many auto body, and truck accessory stores will do the spray for you, but it is cheaper to do it yourself if you have the proper equipment.

First thing to consider with Rhino Liner is the type you want.  Rhino Linings comes in Hardline, Tuffgrip, and Solarmax.  For truck beds you will most likely want Hardline.  If you are not sure you can go to the Selector Survey to see which is right for you.

Once you have decided on your lining product you need to gather the following equipment: rhino lining, masking tape and plastic or paper covering, air compressor, and paint spray applicator.

Next, you want to mask around the truck bed.  Luckily, you do not have to mask the whole vehicle, but you do want to cover all around the truck bed with plastic, the back window, and enough coverage so overspray does not reach the cab of the vehicle.

Finally, mix the rhino lining as per instructions on the bucket, and pour into your paint gun.  Make sure you spray in good temperature, and in a dust free environment.  Outside works, but make sure to do it on a calm, warm(not hot), day.

Turn your air compressor on and begin spraying making sure to provide even, steady "brush strokes" across the cab.  Once completely covered, allow it to dry, and then apply another coat.  You should apply 2-3 coats based upon the needs of the vehicle.  When hardened it should provide a coarse texture similar to rhino skin.  The coating should not rub off or leave a black, chalky residue in your hands.

That's it, remember to maintain your rhino lining, for years of protection.
